The Institute of Soft Skills and Vocational Development of Nigeria has come at a very auspicious time to bridge the existing gap existing in these areas. Hard skills concern an employee’s ability to do a specific task, and soft skills are more about the way they do them — how they adapt, collaborate, solve problems, and make decisions. There is a general lack of service orientation, and this affects both attitudes to work and ability to pay attention to details. That’s why we have difficulty finding people diligent enough to carry out simple technical jobs.

The craze for certificates has driven everyone to desire University education even when they are not qualified, the result of which we are now seeing in the level of employability of our graduates. There is so much knowledge and absence of skills. Soft skills is part of what propelled nations like India to where they are today.
